Body Composition Analysis

See changes your regular bathroom scales cannot show you!

Knowing your fat weight and your lean muscle weight is far more important than your total weight.

A normal balance of body fat to lean body mass is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat in relation to lean body mass, can greatly increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and more.

Why use Body Composition Analysis?

It may seem like you're not losing weight on a diet and exercise program because muscle weighs more than fat. So your body composition may be improving as you lose fat, but your total weight may not always be shifting. The Body Composition Analysis measurement helps you to understand these shifts and keep to your program.

What does it measure?

The Body Composition Test measures your total body fat in relation to your lean body mass, which is an important part of your health and nutrition assessment.

The test is measured on a Bio-impedance Analysis (BIA) machine at the clinic.

How does it work?

BIA is much more sophisticated than your bathroom scale, but just as painless and almost as quick. BIA is a simple procedure performed in our clinic in a matter of minutes with the help of a computerised analysis.

The BIA machine calculates your tissue and fluid compartments using an imperceptible electrical current passed through pads placed on one hand and one foot as you lie comfortably on a treatment couch.

Lean tissue, which is over 70% water, is a good conductor of electrical current. Fatty tissue, which is low in water, is not. Thus, the resistance to the flow of electrical current measured by the analyzer can be used to calculate the body composition. Optimal body fat ranges from 15% to 25% for women and 10% to 20% for men.

Why is it important?

A normal balance of body fat to lean body mass is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat in relation to lean body mass, can greatly increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and more.

BIA is an invaluable tool as it enables early detection of an improper balance in your body composition, which allows for earlier intervention and prevention. BIA also provides the measurement of fluid and body mass that can be a critical assessment tool for your current state of health.

The BIA can be used as a regular monitoring tool, watching your progression, will motivate you further and enable us to ensure your individualised nutritional plan is meeting your ever-changing needs.
